We moved to Sacramento in 1965 and grew up with Dave & Lois as a part of our lives every evening on the news. We wish them well in their retirement. This will be an adjustment for you and for us. As a former Board member for the Society of Professional Journalists, we often called on you two to host our awards events and you ALWAYS said yes, even though you had to run back to the studio and do the 11 o’clock news.
Everyone always commented how down-to-earth you are and I couldn’t agree more.
I also appreciate your committment to animals as an SPCA Committee member and animal-lover. Thank you for everything!

Best wishes for your retirement. I have had the opportunity to see you since the mid 1980’s when I returned from Europe and was stationed at McClellan AFB, perhaps opportunity should be changed to pleasure….

You’ve been “the news” to me for more years than I even want to count, and, selfishly, I’m so sorry to see you go. I’ve always counted on you to deliver what I needed to know in a professional way, and the interviews you’ve conducted always included questions I wanted answered. For your hard work, I wish you every happiness and joy in your retirement, and if you ever decide to make a reappearance, I would be really glad to see you again.

Before moving to Davis (2000)and watchting KCRA I lived in Livermore, CA.
I lived on acreage out of town and I could not get Bay Area stations at that time. I watched Lois On whatever Sacramento station she was on at that time.
When I moved to Davis, I felt so comfortable and at “HOME” with KCRA and Dave and Lois, because of my fond memories of those days gone by.

I had the pleasure of meeting both of you at different events through the years. Always warm and gracious, your familiar faces and voices will be be missed.
I was evacuated from the Marysville area during the floods of 1997 and (yes, you part of a whole) the progress of events and information was presented calmly, throughly and with interest.

I never saw your work in Sacto, but I was there on June 1, 1980, when you launched CNN. When Don and Chris handed the Take Two baton to you guys, you sent me a photo (which Ted also signed!), and I have it to this day. You guys have had quite a run, and I’m sorry it has to come to an end. Good luck on your retirement, and I hope we actually meet in person one day. (I’ve had the pleasure to meet Mary Alice Williams, Lou Dobbs, Don and Chris, Ross and Wilson,Bill Tush,
Susan Rook, and a lot of other CNNers past and present, but, unfortunately, we’ve never met.)

Quality, excellence, friendship, family are words that come to mind when I think about the two of you. I know things must change as time moves on but some things you wish would never change. I feel like I will be losing something very valuable as a result of your retiring but I guess we can’t be selfish – life goes on. As your life takes that leap to something new and different, please never forget to continue your community involvement. I wish you good health, happy and loving times, as well as continued fulfillment in your retired lives.

I along with many others have watched both of you for a long time,and enjoyed every minute.
I particulary remember you (Dave) doing an interview on a local station in South Carolina,I believe in 1978.
I was in the Air Force at the time,turned the tv on and said I know that guy.Is it possible to get an autographed picture?
I will miss your broadcast’s and I hope you enjoy your retirement as much as I enjoy mine.

The evening broadcast will definitely not be the same without you. You made it feel personal. The other networks have tried but they can’t make the connection you have. Lois, I will miss when Dave would say something offbeat and you would shoot him that look…that we women know oh so well! Dave would always succumb to that look. It made me laugh everytime. Thanks for being a guest in my house.

Dave & Lois – We also are a husband/wife team and have been married for 16 years, working for 25 together. We have so enjoyed watching the unspoken innuendo’s you passed along to each other – it took us very little time to figure you were married when we started watching you. You have been extremely professional, forthcoming, and always with a quirky smile when some news had a twist to it. We wish you all the very best in retirement, but know how greatly you will be missed by so many.

Your playfulness came through the TV and even at the end of a tiring day, you made us smile. When we moved to Texas at the end of 2005, one of the things we missed the most was watching you. You know how people get used to a certain news station and have their favorites…..well, you two were ours. You’re relationship together is so much like ours, and we understand the twinkle in your eyes, Dave, and the cute little underlying jabs, Lois, when you interact with each other! Now all we have to go home to, besides each other (of course) is our dog and our cats! Wow…so many changes in such a short time in our news and world but I guess the “once in a lifetime team” had to go sometime so… we say thank you for the memories, the fun, the truth, the honesty, the warmth and the integrity of all those years coming into our home and being known by our children as they grew and by us as we grew too! The stability of what you brought to us and the informatin that sometimes changed our lives…we will miss you and we also want to congratulate you on a beautiful wonderful retirement and continued marriage. My late husband and I always enjoyed your newscasts, even when you had bad news. When we moved to Kansas we tried the local broadcasts but they were never the same. As a matter of fact you both one of the reasons I go to the kcra website.

In all the years of watching your broadcast I never knew you were married to each other. I just thought that you both liked flirting with each other and I felt that the chemistry was there. When one of you was on without the other it seemed sort of out of wack. Now I understand!

You probably do not remember me but my cousin, Glenn Mason, used to work for KCRA along time ago and because of that we had the great fortune of meeting you and Dan Shively and remembering the professionalism that everyone at KCRA showed on every story that they had to tell good or bad. Then you left, but came back to Sacramento and I’ve been watching you ever since. I’m really going to miss you as there will never be another couple like you two on the air. You are great! Hello From Shelly Monahan and Mark Albright Country. I was a long time Sacramento guy and a never miss KCRA News watcher. I lived in Sacramento for over 35 years until I retired from from the State of California.
My wife and I live up here in Post Falls Idaho now which is close to Spokane Washinton State. I cannot tell you how much I miss you both Dave and you Lois on the air with KCRA. But up here in Idaho is like watching KCRA with all the once broadcasters from Sacramento KCRA-3.
I wish you all the best in your retirements. You really deserve the best. You two need a place to visit. Come to Idaho. This here is truly God’s canvas .

For 20 years we have watched Ch 3 with rabbit ears. 3 comes in fuzzy compared to 10 and 13, but we still watch 3 because of Dave and Lois. Their handling of news defines professionalism. Banter between segments with Mark Finan is very funny and helps lighten tragic news. All recent and newer KCRAers would do well to emulate them both. Best of luck with a well deserved retirement. Being a recent retiree myself, I can imagine how you are looking forward to participating in your “outside activities”, like your love of skiing, Lois, & Dave’s softball, and other sporting efforts. And Lois, during those horrible bouts with your allergies, just think—you won’t have to worry about looking so good on the Tube. Just pull the covers up over your head and go back to sleep. I have many memories of your newscasts but my favorite was either New Years or 4th of July when the bridge in Old Sacramento had just been painted.
The bridge was the backdrop to the broadcast and Dave was commenting on how bad the color was. Lois kept saying “Don’t go there, Dave” but he did anyway!
Yes, I agree – it still looks like the color of a baby diaper!

I can’t believe I have been watching you since the 70’s! I have always ended my nights with the both of you. I loved watching your newscasting.Wondering, how you live and work together. How, when there could have been something that one of you were a bit irritated about, impacts your working relationship and you just have to go on tv looking like there is nothing else to deal with but the news. Your professionism was astonding in this regard. I have only recognized a few times there were issues with only slight sarcasms noted.. It was more of a friend type good night. Upon returning to Sacramento, after the passing of both my husband’s parents and then himself, it was comforting to see your familiar faces on the news. I started watching Dave and Lois as a child, who would always hear the evening news on in the background, whether it was doing homework, or just hanging out with family. On weekends visiting my father, watching you two was the only sense of normalcy I experienced, and for that, I greatly appreciate it. I am grown up now- a teacher in the bay area. I constantly flip to the stations here, seeing a lot of Sacramento alum, but I have not yet found a pair whom I admired and thoroughly enjoyed as much as the both of you. I love comedy, and Dave’s jokes always made me laugh; even if I was the only one in the room, or in the studio for that matter.

Dave & Lois, Thank you so much for all the years of just being you. I have always appreciated and stayed loyal to KCRA 3 because of you. I’ve had dinner with Dave and Lois almost every night since I moved to Sacramento.
Looks like now I’ll have to clean up the dining room so I can invite them over in person!

Wishing you both the best fun you can even imagine as you enter into retirement. I do have a funny story to share that I’ve already shared with many friends and family.
Quite a few years ago… when my sister and I had just begun our golfing ‘career(s)’, and were fresh off of our “Learning Exhange Golf Classes” — we decided to play a round at Land Park. Of course we were very ‘green’ and VERY intimidated! And of course we were mortified when we were told we were getting paired up with a single golfer. Nerve-wracked and stressed, we approached the 1st tee. After gracious introductions with “Dave” and an unimpressive tee-off, we started walking down the fairway and I asked my sister… “Do you know who “DAVE” is?!?!?!? It’s “Dave Walker from the news!!”
Of course Dave was a VERY GOOD golfer and of course we WERE NOT! I so vividly remember that ENTIRE round! Dave was so gracious… offering helpful tips, trudging through leaves, trees, etc. in search of our wayward balls. And on the 9th hole — halfway down the fairway — while Dave was watching me — I swung and COMPLETELY missed the ball! I didn’t even know what to do – I was mortified!!! I looked up and at that same time… Dave quickly looked away and acted as if he never saw my faux pas! What a sweet man!! He encouraged me to focus, keep my eye on the ball, don’t pull up and give it a go. So I did and actually got a decent shot.
At the end of the game – he shook our hands, told us it was a pleasure meeting us, encouraged us to keep up the sport and told us he enjoyed playing with us. I know he was ‘fibbing’ about the last part. Who enjoys searching for other people’s ball the ENTIRE game?!?!?!?
Happy to say that I’ve kept up the sport and can now actually hold my own. Not saying that I’m a good golfer – but I have my days… Thanks Dave for a great game, and for your patience and encouragement.
When I see you on the news – I always remember that day and laugh!!

I came back to Ca. after moving to another state and seeing the two of your smiling faces let me know I was back home. You will be missed as now my kids also smile when you are on air. I am both sad (for me) and happy (for you) that you are retiring from KCRA nightly news broadcasting. I’ve been watching you since I returned to Sacramento back in 1991, and you have always been a “class act.” Unlike some other newscastors, you were never one (two?) to exaggerate or sensationalize a news story. Your relaxed, yet purely professional, hometown approach to reporting the news kept me a loyal listener all these last 17 years. But as I retired 6 years ago and am now able to really enjoy life with my wife, I hope you (two) too will enjoy many years of retirement doing the things you’ve always wanted to do, yet may not have been able to do because of the constraints of a daily work schedule. Thank you for all your years of service to the Sacramento community.

Best wishes to you in your retirement! I remember passing you in the halls at KCRA when I was an intern in community relations and you always said, “Hi,” which was a big deal to me. But what stands out most in my mind was passing Lois’ cubicle and seeing a picture of Dave on her desk and thinking how sweet that was and that you both were the “real deal.”

Congratulations! I’ve watched you two since the seventies and have always enjoyed both your professionalism and interaction. After living in Sacramento since 1959, I moved to the panhandle of Florida last year. The first thing we were acutely aware of was how much we missed the way you two reported the news. We’re now in Baton Rouge and the reporting is better but still not as good as what we were used to with KCRA. I wish you good luck with any future endeavors.

Dave and Lois, I’ve watched you on the news from the very start. Your fantastic interaction made even the worst news watchable. Because my husband and I only watch Channel 3 news, we see you more often than we see any of our family members, so subconsciously we have thought of you as our family.
We’ll always remember Rodeo the dog, who was stuck on the roof of his home during the big Olivehurst flood, and how he was rescued by Live Copter 3 andreunited with his owner while you were anchoring.

I remember Lois at KNtV in San Jose I lived in Redwood City at the time. I moved to the Sac area
and hooked up again in 2003. She was a pro then

We have lived in Auburn for nearly 20 years and when we first moved here, naturally we had to find a new channel to watch and get the best news coverage from. We began watching KCRA 3 and knew that was the news channel for us and have watched it faithfully ever since. Thank you for being a part of that great coverage and just all-around enjoyable news program to watch. You will truely be missed on our t.v. sets, but you deserve to enjoy some “you” time, so have a great retirement. Also, not to be overlooked, you are such a great inspiration to marriage, congratulations on staying together for so many years, another accomplishment to be so very proud of!

I remember watching you both on the news in my late teens, and I also remember when you were married. It was like watching a romantic fairy tale. And then you came back to Sac and KCRA and I was excited. It was like seeing ‘old friends’. My kids were 8 & 10 @ the time, and they grew up watching you too (they are now 27 & 25). Our evenings consisted of watching Dave & Lois, and we looked forward to the weather because of the wonderful bantor between you and Dave Finan. Dave has said some funny things throughout the years and that is what made the news more ‘human’, for lack of a better word. You set the bar and although I enjoy the other anchors, nobody will be able to fill your shoes completely. Happy retirement. P.S. In this day and age, it’s been great watching two married people not only work together, but remain together, and it’s so obvious you two love and respect each other deeply. Thank you for that as well.

I live in the Los Angeles area, but travel frequently to Sacramento, and I have always watched Dave and Lois on KCRA when I am up there.
I remember them more vividly from their days at CNN and CNBC, but their familiar presence at KCRA always drew me to channel 3 for news when visiting the Capitol.
It won’t be the same at KCRA without them, but I also cannot deny them the enjoyment of a long retirement together. Best of wishes to you both!

Lois – I want to thank you for helping me back in the early 90s. You came to the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to talk with me about the disaster d’jour (we had so many in those years!). It was my first TV interview – without being asked, you coached me through my posture, my speaking voice and generally how NOT to look like an idiot on TV. I was so impressed with your desire to have your audience get solid information without being distracted by rooky mistakes! That desire/focus is what, to me, made you and Dave such a special news team – we could always believe what you were saying. Thanks again and may both of you have a WONDERFUL rest of your lives!

I haven’t had TV reception in months so this comes as a surprise. I have grown up with Dave and Lois covering every story under the sun. I never knew they were married but it makes sense when you think about them on air. My family moved to Carmichael in 1987 when I was only 2 so they are pretty much the only people I remember.
I hope they continue to have an amazing life together and maybe they can stop by and say hi someday.

I’m sure many people will regale you about your news worthy performances, but I want to let you know that your love and humor shown to each other is what really shined. I will certainly miss you both. When I came to CA you were there on KCRA and I have enjoyed the news as you presented it. I just hope that you are not succeeded by a young giggly, silly news man or woman as so many of the stations have done. News is serious business. You presented the proper amount of humor but kept a really classy presentation.

DAVE and LOIS–Wow! What a journey. I am an avid viewer of the KCRA 3 News/Weather and have watched the both of you for a great number of years. Watching the KCRA newscast (mornings and evenings/weekends) became a part of my daily routine. I have appreciated your candor, your community-mindedness, professionalism, uniqueness, wittiness, the outstanding character you both demonstrated, and all those other good many qualities all tied up in one awesome package. The both of you have been very well-respected, an inspiration, an icon, an institution of the news broadcasting industry. Funny, it took me a while to actually realize that you were married to one another. I had never seen anything like that. To me, that’s totally awesome! How you could have this life together outside of work, at home as a couple, and then come to work together and perform side by side every day for all these years with such style and classiness is tremendous! Now, that was a huge inspiration for me. It says a great deal about the both of you. Phenomenal!!
I feel that most of us knew the “R” word would come up sooner or later, but I never anticipated this soon. I, too, am saddened to learn of your departure. You will be sorely missed. I just hate that I never had the privilege of meeting you in person while there at KCRA. But who knows, perhaps the future may allow that opportunity one day. I would welcome that!
I listened to some of the comments made by your colleagues there at the station via the video clips and they were RIGHT ON! You are the “veterans”, like none other. Although I am saddened, I wish you both well as you retire. I hope you will continue to make the Sacramento region your home and whatever your plans are, whatever your involvement in the community may be, or wherever your paths may take you, may you continue to realize how much you were appreciated and admired by your audience and what a positive impact you had on us as viewers, and the legacy I’m sure your colleagues will come away with as a result of having worked with you.

Back in 1985, i was in the U.S Army stationed in Germany. Ive
always watched Dave And Louis on CNN Atlanta bringing the home news to us soldiers overseas. They both were apart of my family while overseas. When i returned to the states (Sacramento) my home town. Dave and louis was here reporting the news. Ive followed them both for many years. Thank you both for your kind reporting and bringing news from home to us military personel overseas serving our country. You both will be missed.

I first enjoyed the reporting of Dave and Lois while stationed with the Coast Guard on Kodiak Island, Alaska through a then relitively new cable news service called CNN.
I was pleasantly surprised to find Dave and Lois anchoring the news at KCRA Channel 3 when my wife and I retired in Vacaville in 1997.
I wish you both the best of luck for your future and for a great retirement. There IS life after work!

I can’t tell you how very much we have enjoyed your work over the years.
In 1980 we moved east and felt very alone and homesick. We were so delighted to turn on CNN and find you there. It was like a taste of home.
When we moved home by golly you had moved home too.

All the news anchors are just great and enjoyable to listen to. I remember when there was a special Valentines Day. that Dave gave you roses on the show. and that meant alot to me. Thats when I knew you were a married couple. I really thought that was great to see. I do hope once i a while we do see you on the channel 3 again to let every one knows that you are all doing fine. Lois,it’s a fond memory I have. You were reporting on a story about a rock and roll group from the past. There was a clip of their playing. The camara cuts back and you are grinning and shaking to the beat. Dave is looking at you like you’re from outer space. You look at Dave and say, “Oh Dave, you were just too old”. I have thought of that alot when you two report the news. It always makes me smile and realize the long, wonderful history you’ve had together. I’ll miss you both. Congratulations and good luck.

I was really sad when i saw the article on the website. I feel like am losing some dear friends. I am loosing two great anchors and reporters. I have watched chanel 3 from Stan Atkinson to Creighton Sanders, to Harry Martin and list goes on. I am sure you have seen the world but hopefully you can see it in a different way now not working it or reporting it but relaxing and enjoying your travels or whatever else you may have planned. I was very sad to learn you will retire. Who can replace you? We moved to your viewing area in 1991 and started watching KCRA much because of you. I like your sense of humor, and the fact news doesn’t seem delivered, it feels like you both are talking to me and to each other. Debbie and I watched you on TV since 1986. You were both a joy to watch due to your honesty, integrity, and subliminal marital laughter. I want you to know that I consider you a true humanitarian. I will never forget the 2 times in my life that you consoled me on the loss of my only brother and mother to cancer. You went from a respected customer to an immediate friend. If you don’t know already, your voice is recognized throughout the Northern California community as a leader in newscasting. Both of you are really icons in the news business. We came to Sacramento in 1978 on my last military duty assignment at Mather AFB prior to my retirement after 20-yrs of service in the Air Force. We’ve been deligently watching your 6:00PM news upon your returned to KCRA in 1990.
Also followed your noon coverage at the Arden Fair Mall.

I was ‘gobsmacked’ to see the lovely announcement today on Channel 3 …. and then I got a lump in my throat when I realized you won’t be in my living room each evening anymore!
So many stories you’ve covered! I think the one which still brings me such a smile, is when Captain Michael Kidd and his photographer, Ron Middlekoff (hope I spelled his name correctly) rescued *RODEO* from atop that roof in 1997 up near Marysville, was it? When the reunion of that beautiful dog and his ‘parents’ took place later that night…that one came to mind right away!
And Dave, the way you used to give Mark a ‘run for his money’ when he’d bring Jimmy to work…calling his name and then saying ‘cookie?’!! Trying to coax him from his daddy’s desk in the weather department! LOL!
I’m glad for the two of you! Sad as can be for me and the rest of your loyal viewers. I imagine your own doggys will be ever happy to have you home more, though!
What on EARTH will Mark do without you both?!

You don’t know us but we feel that we know you. Every night when I come home for work. I take care of my 86 yr old mother who is bedridden and paralyzed on her right side. She is doing much better now but, still needs constand care.
First thing she says is put the news on Channel 3.
We watch your news every night. We will miss you both and I am sorry to see you go. But retire ment sounds great to me.

We moved to Sacramento from San Jose, CA in 2001. We have enjoyed watching you both on KCRA. Oscar was a security guard at KCRA for summer of 2007. He enjoyed getting to meet you both (and all your co-workers). Thank you for the autographs. We will miss you. We retired this year. We are enjoying retirement and the joy of our grandchildren. Dave & Lois: Northern California has been privileged to have the two of you anchoring the nightly news casts for Channel 3. The younger reporters are going to miss the benefit of your experience. Being a news junkie, I was in a state of ecstacy when I discovered the two of you and Channel Three when I retired to this area. Having been in the broadcast news business for four decades, I can honestly say I’ve never seen a better team in any market. The way you interact with each other is outstanding and I’ll miss that. What will we do? I tend to be a creature of habit. I don’t do well with change. Now I will have to go through three stages.
1. Denial (Pretending that you will be back.)
2. Anger (knowing that you won’t be back.)
3. Grief (sorry to see you go).
You have been like family. We have been with you through the good and bad times. And like family, you have always been there for us. We have watched you with much admiration and respect.
Now it is time, as you run that relay called life, to pass the baton. Know that when you cross the finish line we will be there

I have enjoyed every minute watching the two of you from when you first came to Sacramento, while you were on CNN and since you came back and worked at KCRA. I am often so jealous that each of you has such a great job, and each other.
I actually got to work with Dave one night back in 1976. I was a volunteer TD at the annual KVIE auction. In 1976 it was held down on 19th street next to the rail road tracks. As luck would have it, our major food donor that night was Der Weinerschneitzel and one guest host was Dave Walker. I still laugh at the comments he made that the DW mascot was walking around with Dave’s initials on him.
You will be missed; but there are other professionals stepping into the spotlight. Please enjoy your retirement to its fullest.

I moved to Modesto in 2000 came from the bayarea. One day I turned on the news and there was Dave Walker and Lois Hart, and I never missed a broadcast. I enjoyed everyone of them, and as a big fan who thought you would do the new’s into your 80s I for one am sad to see you go, but wish you the best hope your days are filled with laughter.

Goodness! We have shared soooo many adventures in —OUR— last 30 years together… but 2 fun ones some to mind. Dave, I was your photographer as we chased and rounded up Jackrabbits —by hand— with help from California Dept. of Park and Recreation workers… from a tiny speck of land in the middle of Folsom Lake. These rabbits were trapped by low water on a very, very tiny piece of real estate and Dave and the park workers caught something like 30 Jackrabbits, all by hand, to later release in a safer environment. Bet you never knew Jackrabbits make such a loud noise huh? We won an award for that story too!
Lois, I remember you getting pelted by flying beer bottles in a Sacramento neighborhood that did not want the media attention! Who could EVER refuse a visit from Lois? But the glass was flyin’ and Lois was ducking and running for cover as the camera kept rolling! Remember, the camera never blinks!
You both are such an asset to the community KCRA serves. Many viewers will never know the level of community service you both do to help make peoples lives better. I’ve seen the dedication first hand and you should be commended for it.
My sincerest best wishes for the days, months and years ahead. You have my utmost respect.

The evening news will not be the same with the two of you no longer there. I’m grown used to see your smiling faces welcoming everyone to listen to the 5:00 and 6:30 news, your exchange of witty remarks with Mark Finan and each other, and your questioning of experts on different issues.

The good ones always leave early and you two were definitely the best. Whenever I meet someone familiar with Sacramento television’s “First Couple”, I always tell them my claim to fame is that you replaced me on the weekends when I went to work full time for Kelly Productions on “The West”.

I have been a loyal KCRA viewer for many years. Whenever I left the area, it was a sad thing to know that I wouldnt be able to watch the two of you every evening. You were the one thing that always made me KNOW that I was home when I returned to California.

My family and I moved to Northern California back in 1976. We saw you then and even met you at Apple Hill that year. I would never have thought I would end up working with you but, Mr. Kelly brought us Channel 58 folks to 3 Television Circle back in ‘96 and I began working as a Maintenence Engineer for KCRA that year.
I, too, am very close to retirement. We have survived the best and worst times together haven’t we? Best Wishes for a happy retirement.

You two are special to me. You came to KCRA the year after my husband was hurt on the job and had a subsequent medical retiement. You kept him company until he died in 2006. We both watched your excellent personalized news coverage every day. You two are like having family members in the living room.
I recall one year when Lois was being snippy with Dave. He just laughed. Then Lois was gone for a while and returned looking so refreshed as though she had had a face lift. Eversince then you seemed to have a renewed appreciation for each other.
Both of you are beautiful people. I’m sad to lose you. KCRA will never be the same. There should be more couples on the news to promote the vaule of family. I hope you will not be totally out of view of the public eye. Have a wonderful rest of your life.

I recently retired in March 08, and I can tell you, retirement is just the most wonderful thing. No more commuting to the bay area each week. I first watched both of you on CNN, and 5 years ago when we bought a home in Pollock Pines, and started watching KCRA, I told my husband that I thought you had worked for a bay area news station and that you both were married. My husband told me “No, they aren’t married, their names aren’t the same” Silly guy. I proved it to him by going to KCRA.com and showed him both of your histories. Married with Lois keeping her own identity! And I did find out that I did see Lois when she in San Jose.

You both have been icons at KCRA and no doubt anywhere else you’ve been prior to your tenure in Sacramento. You have truly earned your well-deserved retirement. I’m sure your commitments during your retired life will be just as important as has been to each other and to all the work you’ve done in the communities touched by your presence. You will be missed.

Lois I remember you came to look at our condo when you were looking for a place to live inSacramento. There you were sitting on our sofa. It had been our first “Home” we bought, but I was in awe even tho you did not buy our condo it was a wonderful story to tell all are friends (our college friends) when you made it big, you were paired with Dave and you married, you left to go to SF (our home area itself which we moved back to and then we too returned back to the valley as it had become home) and then you returned HOME. We sold our condo to someone else shortly after that visit but still all in all we wish you the best in your retirement. You have worked hard and have earned the time to do what you want, when you want, not when the news and breaking stories allow. Much luck and happiness in this next phase of your life.

We met in Sacto about 30 years ago at a bar during your break between shows. I later moved to the Virgin Islands when you both were on CNN and I called you from there. Do you remember? I suspected you and Lois were an item and my suspicions were true. Hooray for both of you. I then moved to Italy for several years and I have just returned to the Sacto area (Grass Valley) and turned on my tv and there you both were. It truly was like “coming home”. I am so happy for both of you and your much deserved retirement. You will both be missed very much, every evening, in my home.

I started watching KCRA since 1991-1992 from Brentwood on cable since moving from San Jose and I really enjoyed your professionalism and straightfoward news whether from triumph or tragedy, from good times to bad times, you were there to cover all throughout these past 18 years, and I hope you have a wonderful and great retirement from the TV business, I had all choices when it comes to news, but I made Channel 3 my choice and I’m happy that I did. Happy Retirement Dave and Lois!! Read in the paper that you were retiring and I couldn’t believe it! Now, I will really make you feel old!~~We know each other, but it has been a long time~~Haven’t seen you since I gave Bette Vasquez her birthday party at my family’s mexican restaurant in Gold River and you and Dave changing in the bathroom after you had been skiing!!
It was hard just getting Bette there~~but will remember that party well and it was the who’s who in television history who attended~~Stan Atkinson, Harry Martin, etc. Remember Dave loving on those Margaritas! I am “Maggs” who use to take care of Bette’s kids, Bummy and Jeff and in the KOVR days, I use to bring the kids down to the studios to watch, you, Bette and Dave broadcast the news~~before you were married~~~Now, do you feel old? You’re not!!!

I had the privledge of working in the newsroom @ KCRA from 1997-2001. I was first a temporary worker and then was hired on full-time. Both of you made my stay at KCRA so memorable. I’ll never forget the wonderful cake I received from the newsroom when I left as a temp worker. It was huge! I met Dave in 1994 in Crosswoods in Citrus Heights. You were doing a piece on Saints and asked if I would participate in a St. Joseph’s ritual to help sell a house. The house sold within a month and you came back with the crew to interview the Seller and myself again (you called me the “Underground Agent”). It was great fun and you were my favorite Newsman after that. I always appreciated the way you looked at Lois with such admiration. All the best to both of you, hope to see you around town.

Since 1991 have I watch KCRA 3 News with my brother whenever you were on and we were the only station to turn to for local news. It’s not easy to hear that you’re retiring. Channel 3 has been the channel I’ve turned to for news as long as I’ve lived in California. My Dad would come home from work, sit down and turn on channel 3 news. When I married, we’d watch channel 3 news. My kids cut their teeth watching Dave and Lois on channel 3 news. I’m not sure what my future grandchildren will do not getting to know Dave and Lois. God bless you and enjoy every minute of your retirement!

One thing I do have is an autographed picture of both of you together. A few years ago a friend of mine saw you in your ‘favorite place’ here in Nevada City/Grass Valley area. He told you that I was an avid fan of you two and you gave him a picture signed by you both. So, at least I have that, and I thank you. Gosh, Dave and Lois, how time flies! I wish both of you the best of luck in retirement, but I know I will suffer withdrawals the first time I watch the news without you. I have watched both of you reporting the news in Sacramento since the late ‘70’s…missed you when you were gone and was ecstatic when you came back! You’re the reason KCRA became my favorite news station.
Have fun on the slopes and with your golf game. You will enjoy your time off, but always remember ‘your public’ will welcome you back with open arms (and hugs), should you decide retirement just isn’t for you (fat chance, huh?).
The news just won’t be the same without you. KCRA has some very big shoes to fill when you leave!

You seem to really enjoy each other’s company and really make the News as lighthearted as it should be, yet able to shift to the seriousness when necessary. I have a plaque that is at my house, it reminds me of the two of you who have come into our homes night after night “some people come into our lives and quickly go, others leave but leave footprints on our hearts”, you have left footprints on many hearts. Dave, your smile is contagious, and Lois your banter with Dave and Mark Finan would keep us laughing long after the news was reported! But our fondest memory was watching as our baby granddaughter’s world would stop when Dave and Lois came on. As soon as you two would appear on the screen she would crawl over to the TV to watch you. When a commercial came on, she would crawl away and then immediately come back when you appeared again. She is 7 now and not so captivated by the news, but she was certainly mezmorized by you two, as were all of us. Good luck and God’s speed on your new adventure. Retirement will be the best job you ever had!

Truly you’re #1 on my news tube. I have admired the way you both deliver the news. Your delivery is comfortable and concise. You simply have the gift of grasping and holding one’s interest. I feel stupid saying “I feel as though I know you after all these years.” I’ve watched you from Modesto since the very beginning. Dave resembles my brother so much. I remember phoning my brother decades ago and saying “Bruce turn on the tube. Your twin is on.”
Visiting Old Town decades past I once saw Dave in a restaurant eating dinner. You actually looked out the window at me. I was excited as I was a fan even back then.
By the way, love the Lennon glasses in 1991!
Lois is one classy lady. You two are in for a fantastic retirement and I wish you good health and many years ahead.

Dave and Lois, We are avid watchers of KCRA news. Our grandson is 21 months old, and for the last year, he stops what he is doing and will listen to Dave talk. He will not move until Dave has finished his newscast. He will start playing or eating and again, when Dave begins to talk, he stops and listens. My or My what are we going to do now. He is with us 3 nights a week while Mom and Dad do their law enforcement jobs, so this will be quite a change not having you on board our babysitting nights. Dave and Lois stay healthly, active and enjoy your retirement-we will miss you.

Channel 3 seems to have had it’s share of news “icons” over the years. Tim, Mike, Tom, etc., but from a visual standpoint – I always saw you two at the helm of a ship of all-stars. I only had the pleasure for 12 years, but I think any newscast with you two during that time was the best in town. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge, experience, humor, and humility. As recent retirees ourselves, my husband and I were not surprised to receive the news of your departure from KCRA. Still we had secretly (selfish on our part).. hoped to be seeing you on our nightly news for a few more years to come. We have watched you nearly every single evening for many years! I can still see my husband, coming in from his outdoor projects, hastily beckoning my attention,with the reminder.. “It’s time for Dave and Lois!!” With this I would grab two glasses of wine for us, and we would cuddle up on the sofa to watch the news.You were like two familiar close friends in our livingroom. We will miss you tremendously; we will miss your terrific sense of humor, your accurate, always fair and unbiased way of presenting the news. But we are very happy for you. life goes on and your are both on a new journey, another transition of life. Oh my! My husband Ron and I moved here to (Sutter Creek) up country really, from Orange County five years ago. I couldn’t believe how hard it was to adapt to a NEW news station. Our LA stations (our fav. being ABC’s Eyewitness News) was like family. You don’t realize that until you move away. But it didn’t take long to adopt you both as our new favorites. It took a little bit to figure out that you both were married, but when we did, all the more we loved you. Not sure what we will do now. Feels like we are moving all over again. We came to Lodi only 6 years ago, and immediatly found the “Dave and Lois show”and have stayed ever since.

I just had to write in and let you both know how much I will miss you. I was born, raised and still reside in South Lake Tahoe. We have the option of watching KCRA or the numerous news channels the come out of Nevada and as far back as I can remember I have only watched KCRA. The two of you are the best team. As for Dave, I must say there have been a couple times where I have been eating dinner and watching the news and some of the things that come out of your mouth are so unexpected I have had to spit out my food so that I didn’t choke. I remember one year it was around the holidays and you were closing the news cast with a story on mall santas and your comentary on it was hysterical and classic! Dave & Lois: you both have been a BIG part of our news and family for so long. We can’t imagine what KCRA news will be like without you both.
You are one of the reasons, when we had a satellite installed, we also kept basic cable. We would not be without KCRA and Dave & Lois.
We are retired and it was really, really difficult at first. We bought a motorhome and are traveling with our two dogs. Carl does not miss work but I still do a little.

Ok Now you have done it, we have been having dinner almost every week night for years. And i know you have sufferred through my burnt fried potatoes and meatloaf, weird vegie combinations and my decaf coffee. But all in all every thing usually truned out ok. I guess i’ll just have to train the next team ???? to be polite and smile as i have my dinner every night. Time flies. It seems like you just came back to Sacramento and here it is time for retirement. Last night at our family dinner I asked my folks, what will we do without Dave & Lois? The well-wishes online from your colleagues show how valued and loved you are in the workplace. Those feelings carry out to the community and those of us who bring you into our living rooms every night.
I especially will miss Dave’s mischievous smile and Lois’ witty repartee with Mark Finan. In addition to reporting the news, you made us smile. I had a gran mal seizure 12/24/2000 and another 12/25/2000, then spent 9 days in the hosp for many tests before being released to a home I did not remember. It has been a long recovery. My loyal husband has been with me when I didn’t even know his name. Through all of this, there were two familiar faces that I could remember though not remembering their names; they were: DAVE AND LOIS. I can no longer work and admire DAVE and LOIS for their many years of dedicated work together, because that is how my husband and I met; through work. I love how they interact together, how they finish each other’s sentences, how they have that connection that true love shines through. Happy Retirement.

Congratulations! We came to Sacramento in 1964. We worked and lived there for 43 yrs. Channel 3 was always there for us. When you two gave the news, you could take it to the bank. Regardless of your affilations – Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal you gave the news with no bias. Very perfessional!! Thank You. In 2006 we retired and moved back to TN, where we are orginally from. Even after 2 yrs., we still miss you. Where ever you go, what ever you do, we wish you blessings.

I am a fourth-generation Sacramentan who has been a Channel 3 News watcher since it’s inception. I was really a devoted Stan Atkinson fan and thought I would be following him to Channel 13. I grew up watching Huntley and Brinkley over dinner as a little girl. As an adult I watch KCRA 3 for the excellence of its local anchors, newsteam and weather forecasters. We retired to Colorado Springs 18 months ago. Until we moved we watch Dave and Lois on KCRA on a daily basis. They were a great team, fun to watch and listen to and very informative. The KCRA area will miss them and they will be difficult to replace.

You two are truly an inspiration. I went to Cordova High School from 1977-1980, and always went home for lunch so I could watch Lois anchor the noon news. She was a true groundbreaker, and quite an inspiration for a teenage girl. My husband and I moved to So Cal in 1992 but still visited several times per year, and always looked to the Walkers for our news. We moved back to Nor Cal 5 years ago, and now watch Channel 3 news every night. You will be missed!

I remember a college professor tell me that I should apply for a new kind of job in Atlanta, GA. I was studying to be a technical director. His suggestion was to apply for a position at a new kind of network one that was on cable. My response was “that will never work”. I watched the premiere of CNN with Dave and Lois. I have watched you through out the years and I wish you well on your retirement. I ended up in the retail field and enjoyed ever since, but I always wondered should I have joined CNN. My husband and I moved from Sacramento to Portland last year. We also lived in Austin, TX and San Jose for a while a few years back. So we’ve been exposed to several TV anchors over the years. No one compares to Dave & Lois. They’re the best! They bring a sense of humor and an appreciaton for the absurdity of some of the stories that they have to report. So refreshing!! My husband and I have been faithful KCRA TV news watchers “forever” – right up until the day we moved to Oregon. We love the professionalism you both brought with you to the news. We compare every channel we watch to you – and the others never meet your standards in our book! You made KCRA #! and you ALL became part of “our family”.
It has been such an eye-opener to watch all the KCRA “family’s” well-wishes on this website – to see their love for you both and to see that the staff still maintains a well-dressed professional appearance. It was also good for us to be able to “see” everyone again. We miss all of you so much since our move here to Oregon after our retirement four years ago. We even have KCRA as our home page so that we can check in with the best TV channel we’ve ever watched.
We did notice the absence of Tom Sullivan there in the mix. He has done well for himself and we are proud to say “we knew him when….”

It has been a joy wathcing you two for many years on Channel 3. I always look forward to seeing you both on the news. When I sometimes see only one of you I start thinking oh oh, one of them must be sick! Ahh to my relief, in a few days you returned! I remember the time when you, Lois, finally cut your long hair and Dave had to remark on the air how much he really like the change. Yes, there will be a big change shortly, I won’t be able to see you two on Channel 3 News. BUT, I do wish you two a happy retirement! Enjoy… enjoy! Travel… Travel!!!!!!!

I have mixed emotions. Channel 3 is THE news station and the only one I am interested in. You 2 are a great part of the reason why. While I am really going to miss you two, your quips, your obvious love for the game and the way you compliment each other; I am happy that you will get to retire while you can still enjoy yourselves. Thank the Lord that He allowed you to do so and have a ball. Your shoes cannot be filled, so we’ll just set them aside. May God bless you and yours in your retirement endeavors.

I always tuned in, not only for the news, but for a laugh at the interaction between you two and your co-workers. It’s surprising how much you can learn about people just from passing remarks. Dave has such great humor and Lois could give as good as she got. Hiding the Christmas present in the kitchen because she never goes in there just cracked me up!! I will miss your easy camaraderie. Hope you enjoy retirement and I hope we will still see you once in awhile for a special story. (Loved those New Year’s Eves)!!

Stan and Lois I first met you about six years ago at a fund raiser at Cal Expo. I worked for SBC back then and I walked over to a table where you were sitting and you both signed a photo and handed it to me. My husband and I have watched you for years on the news and have grown to admire you and how profecient you are at your job. We now live in North Natomas and about two years ago we sat next to Lois at a Jazz concert next to Raleys and once again enjoyed seeing you. Dave and Lois – Something that I always remember as being so funny is I was watching the news one evening, a couple of years back, and we must have been having a real dry season because Dave had hoped we would get some rain soon and he said, “Maybe we’ll get lucky this evening.” Lois then turned to Dave and said, “Don’t think you’re getting lucky tonight”. I thought that was so funny. I still laugh when I think about. You will definitely be missed, but so glad you are entering the life of retirement. Take care and enjoy!

Anyhow, I am 50 now, and I remember watching you two on KOVR with cast that included Bette V, Steve Sommers, and even Rush Limbaugh if I remember correct. Dave, do you remember reporting the breaking of the dam in L A years and years ago? We were watching you and saw the break in your background before you saw it!
We moved to Modesto from Long Beach in 1989 and when we saw you on KCRA we felt like we brought some of southern Cal with us.

I’m happy to be witnessing the end of two brilliant careers, especially since I was a part of the beginning of one of them.
Lois and I started the tiny news department of then station KMST in Monterey, back in the mid-1970s. We went in different directions, but landed together again in Sacramento. I attended their wedding down by the Sacramento River, only to watch them jet off to CNN shortly after. Yet, back again they came, this time to stay.
Two nicer, unassuming, yet consumately professional people would be hard to find. Their’s is a style rarely seen now, and will be much missed.
Congratulations, Dave and Lois. Now take some time for yourselves. Enjoy the evenings, since you’ve missed most of the last 30 years of them!

My wife, Sandra, and I actually met you at Bootleggers Restaurant up in Auburn a couple of years ago. We offered to let you and your guests to share a talble with us in the lounge area. It was nice talking with you Dave. You asked me a great question that night….quote…..”Have you ever heard of a deep fried avacado?” That was the appetizer that night. Fun memory! When mistakes happen or a line misread….where normally akward for others….you guys turned it into funny moments that were enjoyed rather than stressed over. It will not seem like the holidays without Dave’s annual story of his father picked up a the christmas tree from the road, having fallen off a car.
My husband and I have enjoyed having you in our home everynight and you will be missed by all. Enjoy your travels, and much deserved retirement.

My wife and I have enjoyed your broadcast for the past 20 years, we have been great fans of KCRA because of talented people like you.
We first started with Stan Atkinson, Betty Vasquez, & Creigton Sanders.
Now we are saying goodbye to you guys also. Live a long and happy life, we will miss you both everynight. Like we remember Stan & Betty we will also remember Dave & Lois.

I have been watching KCRA since the 50’s and Dave and Lois for many many years. Shortly after their return from Atlanta I came into the room where my son was watching them and very seriously he said “Dad, I think Dave and Lois are having an affair”. I laughed so hard and shared with him they are married. Every time I see them I remember that moment. Congratulations and best wishes for being the dependable couple and our friends. Dear Dave & Lois,
I’m not one to write to people that I’ve never met in person before, but here I’m. I was born in Sacramento in 1965 and have lived here my whole life. I started watching you Dave when I was just 10 yr. old. I’ve been watching the 2 of you together for the last 18 years. I have to say that you have brought much joy and tears into my living room with your news stories. So, even those I’ve never met you both in person ( been to many public event that you were at ) i fell like you are old friends and just had to tell you I wish you both many many happy years together in retirement.
